"Can you stand?" he asked, and after a bit she nodded. This time, she did not refuse the hand up he offered her, and he steadied Elvira on her stocking feet for a moment before they made their way onto dry shore again.
"Well, you've had an adventure, tha's for sure, Missy," Hagrid said. "I'm sorry I knocked you into the drink---"
"Oh, no," Elvira said. "It was an accident, Professor."
"Well . . . Let's get you dried off, shall we, Miss DeKeel?" Professor Albion asked.
"Yes, please," Elvira said. She pushed her hair away from her eye patch with one hand, leaving a smear of mud on her cheek in the process.
"No offense, Professor Albion," Hagrid said with a grin, "but you could use with a bi' o' drying off yourself."
Phoenix Albion looked down at his soaked and mud-stained robes. "Hmm. Yes, I see what you mean," he said, rubbing a finger across the bridge of his nose. "And they were brand new when I put them on this afternoon." He smiled down at Elvira. "Yours too, I imagine," he said, and she nodded wearily. "Still---not to worry."
He raised his wand and with a flick of the wrist encompassed them both in his spell: "Exarescus . . . scourgify!"
Elvira felt a little swirl of air dancing around her, seeming to suction the water from her hair, her school robes and the uniform beneath, which were magically no longer plastered to her skin in a soggy, clinging mess. A few seconds later something sparkled in her eyes and around her, and her clothes, face and hair were once again clean of mud and kelp.
"And now for your shoes," Professor Albion said. One more quick summoning spell and Elvira's sodden and mud-caked shoes fell with a soggy <<plop!>> onto the ground a foot in front of her.
"Exa---no . . ." Albion said, pointing at Elvira's shoes. "Better do this the other way around or you'll end up with your shoes full of dried mud. Scurgio . . . Exarescus . . . "
Abruptly, the mud and kelp were gone, leaving two clean school shoes leaking water onto the shore. A few seconds later they were dried out as well and Elvira stooped to pick them up.
