<<SECOND YEAR AND OLDER STUDENTS MAY POST TO THIS THREAD>>
<<Welcome back to school, everyone! Please find your seats at your house tables and get reacquainted with your house and classmates! The Sorting Ceremony will be held for First Year students soon, and the Headmistress will adress the school.>>
As each carriage deposited its passengers they joined the ever-increasing crowd swarming up the steps, through the giant oak front doors of the castle, and into the cavernous entrance hall beyond, which was filled with flaming torches. A magnificent marble staircase led to the upper floors, and the door into the Great Hall stood open on the right.

Simmona took a seat at the Gryffindor table and waited. Her stomach was growling impatiently though and rumbled louder than the many footsteps entering the room... or so it seemed. she couldn't wait for the food to appear so she could dig in and shut her stomach up.

Pippa Rush slipped out of the Main Foyer and into the Great Hall as soon as Professor Isis started to speak to this year's group of First Year students. Half a dozen Hufflepuffs waved and called to her from their House table, and one of her roommates had saved her a seat. Waving, she ran to greet them. Pippa Rush

Cullen North watched Pippa Rush slip into her seat at the Hufflepuff table, wishing for about the millioneth time he had the nerve to introduce himself. They were both fifth year students and had even had a few classes together, but as far as he knew, she didn't even know he existed. Oh, maybe she'd seen him play Quidditch--he was the Ravenclaw team captain after all--at least he could hope. Being in different houses didn't mean they couldn't be friends, after all.
He sighed. Maybe, he thought . . . maybe they'd have a couple of classes together this year. Man, you are really lame, he told himself. And then--okay, so do something about it. Promise yourself . . . the first class you have together, you're going to walk right up to her and introduce yourself before you graduate and never get to see her even from across the Great Hall again.
Yeah, right, he thought. That'll be the day.

Professor Albion walked into the Great Hall, struck immediately by the babble of talk and laughter coming from the students at the four House tables. The Staff tables sat at the head of the room, and he strode toward them, breaking into a short trot at the sight of his wife, Libby, seated there among the faculty and staff.
"How was it?" she asked as he slipped into his chair beside her.
"I'll tell you later," he said. He kissed her hand and then her cheek, but his sense of propriety stopped him there. A married couple among the Hogwarts faculty was unusual enough, but there was no reason to give the students too much to talk about on their first night at school. "Professor Isis should be bringing the new First Year students into the Hall in a few minutes," he told her, "and then you'll see how they're sorted into their Houses."
"How many Ravenclaws will there be?" she asked, and he shook his head.
"There's no way of knowing. The Sorting Hat places the students based on personality, talent, aptitude--"
"Which house were you?"
"Ravenclaw." He grinned. "We're supposed to be the smart ones," he added. "Not that it always holds true, of course."
"What about the others?" she asked.
"Ah, well . . . " he pointed to each table in turn as he spoke. "Slytherin has a reputation for being cunning, ambitious and resourceful. There's an old saying that every evil wizard in the world came from Slytherin, but of course it's not true. Gryffindor values courage, nerve and chivalry. Hufflepuff gets the littlest amount of credit overall in my opinion, though they're said to be hard working, loyal, tolerant and to play fair--certainly some of the most valued traits anyone could exhibit. I think they'd get better press if the name wasn't so absurd in this day and age. My own Ravenclaws are supposed to be intelligent, inventive, even wise, though you shouldn't look for too much wisdom in them at this age, of course. In truth, of course, the perfect witch or wizard would be a mix of the traits of all four houses."
He squeezed her hand. "It makes me wonder which house you'd have been placed in if your parents had sent you to Hogwarts."
"I'd have wanted to be with you," Libby said.
"Hmm . . . perhaps not at the time," he said. "I've mellowed considerably since my days as an angry young man. I honestly don't know how Dumbledore and Snape put up with me all those years."
"Perhaps they knew what you were going to become," she said.
"Well, I doubt that," he said, "but it makes for a good story. Oh, look, there come the First Years. Watch now."

Gwen stepped up to the podium, and raised her hands to quiet everyone down. As soon as it was silent, she said loudly...
"Welcome!! Welcome all to a New year at Hogwarts. I am very honored to be here as your Headmistress, and hope to get to know all of you. Now, I'm not one for rules that much, but there are a few you should know of: First, The Forbidden Forest is off limits... as it was when I was a student; Second, I would like everyone to respect the teachers and each other," she motioned to the teachers and smiled. "And third, I want everyone to enjoy their time learning and making friends. It is a wonderful thing to be with friends, and I hope everyone keeps them close. And now... without further adu..." she clapped her hands together and the food appeared, filling all the tables with delicacies of all kinds.
She went and sat in her large chair and started filling her plate.
